“Systems Research”. New Publications by BCSSS Scientific Council Member David Rousseau

We are pleased to announce a number of new published papers edited or co-edited by David Rousseau in March 2017:

The first one was the release of  “Systems Research” on 9th March 2017 by the co-authors Mary C. Edison, Pamela Buckle-Henning, Tim Ferris,  Andreas Hieronymi, Ray Ison, R., Gary S. Metcalf, George Mobus, G., Nam Nguyen, David Rousseau, Shankar Sankaran and Peter Tuddenham. The paper is an output of the IFSR Conversation 2016 and is included as a chapter called “Systems Research: A Foundation for Systems Literacy” in the book “Systems Literacy: Proceedings of the Eighteenth Conversation of the International Federation for Systems Research”, edited by Gary S. Metcalf, Peter Tuddenham, Gerhard Chroust and Mary C. Edison.

On 23rd March 2017 Rousseau’s paper “Systems Research and the Quest for Scientific Systems Principles” was published in the journal “Systems” (Vol. 5), a contribution to a Special Issue on “Systems Research” edited by Shankar Sankaran, Pamela Buckle, Tim Ferris, and Mary C. Edson.

During the 15th Annual Conference on System Engineering Research (CSER 2017) from
23rd to 25th March 2017 on the subject of “Disciplinary Convergence: Implications for Systems Engineering Research” in the Systems Science track Rousseau presented his paper Three General Systems Principles and their Derivation: Insights from the Philosophy of Science Applied to Systems Concepts. This paper has been published as a chapter in the Springer book “Disciplinary Convergence in Systems Engineering Research” edited by Azad M. Madni, Barry Boehm, Roger G. Ghanem, Daniel Erwin and Marilee J. Wheaton.

In late March David Rousseau was invited to join the Editorial Board of the IFSR’s book series “IFSR International Series in Systems Science and Systems Engineering” published by Springer. The series is being relaunched under new Editor-in-Chief, George Mobus, further members of the Editorial Board are Jennifer M. Wilby, Javier Calvo-Amodio, Gerhard Chroust, Gary Metcalf and Gary Robert Smith.

Lastly in April 2017 Rousseau was appointed as the editor of one section in a forthcoming volume of the IFSR book series planned to celebrate the series re-launch. The book is going to be on “Toward Integrated Systems Research in Science and Engineering”, three sections are intended:

Part 1 – Research in Systems Science (edited by David Rousseau)
Part 2 – Systems-based Research in the Sciences (edited by George Mobus)
Part 3 – Research in Systems Engineering (edited by  Javier Calvo-Amodio)

It is expected that the book will be completed in 2018.
